Different distros are better at different jobs - there's no one distro I'd choose for anything. Generally it's a combination of Ubuntu if I want to get something up and running quickly, Gentoo if I want a highly customised install, debian if I want a very lightweight, stable install and DSL if I'm installing it on a machine old enough that nothing else will ever work.
