run linux installed on external hdd

Can I run linux installed on external hdd on any computer connected to hdd via pci sata controller or only on computer I used to install linux?

Hi,

This can be done. You will just have to set the bois to start the external drive first each time that ou want to run linux off it. I would have a look at this page.

Also remember that different machines will have different hardware and therefore require different drivers. So while you may be able to boot the one installation when hooked up to different machines, don't expect it to behave reliably or consistently.

If you're still determined to go ahead with it, at least use a distro such as knoppix which is fantastic at detecting hardware on the fly.
