winrar slow compression

For the life of me I can not get winrar to use hardly any of my computer power that I open. Starting in 3.90 winrar was to multi-cores that run XP. Even when I set the affinity to only one core it does not use any more of the computer.

Windows XP
Winrar 3.92
3.0Ghz quad-core
4gb RAM
72000 WD 320GB SATA 3gb/s

You would think that it should use more then 0-1% CPU and 67,892K RAM...any ideas?
