What determines whether or not you lose your drivers when reformatting?

you reformat, widows installs it's drivers for your devices..you have to install your device's specific driver if windows doesn't have one for it, or you want to update to a different version from your device manufacture's website other than the default one windows installed.

As far as I know, you don't really need drivers for a hard drive.
