Quad core upgrade

Both the dual and the quad cores are AM2+ sockets. You should be fine. If worse comes to worst, you might just have to do a BIOS flash.

Do I need a new mobo for quad core? Or does it hook up the same

Most boards that accept dual cores can accept quad cores.
But just to be sure, want to give a link to your motherboard?
