XP Antivrus 2008 Problems

Ok,One of my friends got this,Now he managed to get rid of it.Now when he goes to change his desktop,all he gets is this:

(Icons are purposly blurred out)

So when i try to get into the registry to resolve this,I get this:

Any Ideas what to do?

I had similar problem. Turn out to be monitor's fault. I've changed my monitor and everything was OK. Another problem it might be that the virus messed up the VGA drivers. Try to reinstall them.

Are you serious,How can a monitor cause regedit.exe to corrupt?

There is no way a monitor can do that.

Does regedit work in safemode?

the easiest way would just be to format, or just do a repair installation, as who knows what else is wrong with the system.
if not just make sure you give the pc a good clean before you do anything else: antivirus, hijackthis, etc.

Yeah i suggested that,I Would Honestly think thats the easiest option,But He's a bit relluctant about that.

Well the only other option is to spend a long time doing this thing one file at a time. It's a lot quicker to just reformat and reinstall all your programs.
