any way i can set itunes to play music threw all 5 of my speakers

It's not iTunes problem. Look in your driver settings or speaker controls to enable Dolby Pro Logic Music. That'll set it for virtual surround sound.

It will only produce a 'virtual' effect.

For true 5.1 surround sound the track needs to be encoded digitally with 5.1 information.

Yes, but it will at least play out of all the speakers then.

You probably need a decent sound card or decent speakers that can support Pro Logic then.

I have mine setup as 5.1 according to the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties (from control panel) and then you click the advanced under Volume (the speaker settings one) where you can change your speaker configuration.

WMP will play through all 5 (well, actually 6) speakers for me.

Something called ATSurround on WinAmp works very well with my speakers/ sound card.
