so i tried a quick restore on my grandfathers computer and it wants a product key for win 98 but it doesnt like the one that he gave me. whats the best way to get around this?

I would recommending backing up everything first and then, trying a fresh install of '98 if you still have the disks. Or even installing xp on his computer, if his computer can handle it.

If you try to contact microsoft about '98 issues, they will let you that there isn't a lot that they can do for you. They don't support it any more.

How old is his computer? what are the pects? chances are, if his computer is running Win98, XP will run at a snail's pace. Computers designed to run 98 have different ports such as with the amount of USB and serial, though it varies slightly, and certain features of XP may not work. At least, that has been my experience. His best bet is to get a totally new computer unless the disks for Windows 98 are still present.

You could always look at my sig, too.
