hooking up router screwed up need help

OK so im sure ive put ever cord in every correct spot for the new wireless router i got, yet i cannot connect to the internet on my computer, it says it has a connection but the internet does not work, it doesn;t make sense. The check mark for test next to the power is not lit up and the internet one is orange, it is a netgear router

Power off all the computers, unplug router from power, unplug modem from power. Wait one minute. Plug Modem back into power. Wait one minute. Plug router back into power, turn on computers.

Firstly can you contact the router? if yes have you got all the settings correct like PPPOE OR PPPOA if you have selected the wrong one of these the your router will not connect to the net, check your router instructions, also have you enabled the router firewall or your computer one as this could be the problem, check your encryption key if it has been set up as well.
