ethernet.... =(

i have modem, sbv5220 surfboard, which contains one port in the back for the ethernet cable. i bought a netgear 5 port fast ethernet switch, and tried to run another ethernet wire to my IMAC. my imac will not hook up to an internet connection...
any ideas?!

i may be wrong, but wouldn't you need a router for that, not just a switch?

for me i have a wireless rouder hooked up to my main computer. i have three open eithernet ports in the back of it. all you have to do is plug an eithernet cable into one of the slots and the other end into the other computer and it should work. Tested it on WinXP and Ubuntu Linux

I assume your IMAC is OK when connected directly to your modem?

So you may need a X-over cable for the uplink to the switch. not all devices are self configuring and I dont know which Netgear switch you have.
