Not Recognizing Network Adapter

I recently restored Windows XP on my laptop (hooray for nasty computer viruses!) and installed on the drivers on the seperate drivers c.d. However, under device manager, it does not list the network adapter. I went to dell.com to download the Broadcom 440X 10/Integrated Network Driver and attempted to download it onto my computer. But it still does not work after setup. When I restart the computer and turn it on, the computer detects new hardware ("network controller") but cannot find the information files to download it and it always says "the device has not been downloaded properly." There are also two really annoying yellow exclamation marks next to "ethernet controller" and "network controller" under "other devices." I've tried so many options, but I just don't understand. The computer was once capable of going on the internet...wirelessly too! I swear!
If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. I would appreciate it them!

did you buy it new or used? Maybe the network card was diffrent or something?

Not sure about Dell but Sony have a seperate file for wireless capability and it may be the same for Dell.

This caught me last week same problems as you.
