Laptop Suggestions

I was looking at some Acer laptops that were on special. Are Acers reliable? What is their tech support like? Anyone know? They sell them locally around here more than any other brand, so that's what made me consider them.

Looking for something with:

  • Wireless internet built-in
  • A dialup modem built-in, unless someone can suggest another way to connect to dialup that is easy
  • 1024MB of RAM most preferably
  • Windows Vista preinstalled
  • Probably a video card rather than onboard if possible
  • Not too expensive (in or under the $1000 range)
Ideas?

Was thinking specifically this:

I personally like the HP dv line, two of my friends own them and I haven't heard many complaints.

theres one at 1049 i think that fits everything. graphics card, a core 2 duo, integrated dial up modem using an ethernet cable, not phone line! thats awesome. has vista too.

If you mean the one that you posted earlier, the Core 2 Duo is definitely a plus, but an x1400 is a rather weak card for todays standards, the Vista it provides is Vista Basic as well, which is a completely stripped down version of Vista Home Premium so you wouldn't really be using Vista to it's utmost potential.

Why don't you consider Dell? They ship world wide plus, they're cheaper than their competiton when it comes to Core 2 Duo setups.
