mammikoura, it doesn't matter if MBR from XP overwrites GRUB. You can go put the Linux CD in again, and just install the bootloader, and it will overwrite the MBR. It really doesn't matter what order you put them on there. Just make sure you know how big each partition should be.

Yeah I know that you can overwrite mbr with grub. But whats the point in grub -> mbr -> grub when you can do mbr -> grub?

thanks so much for everything, it's all working fine now thanks ;)

one last question though. Idid install windows (on a 10G partition) and Kubuntu on a 50gb partition, but, everytime it loads up, it says INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. so i put the kubuntu disk in, (press enter) on th menu (with install) select boot from 1st hard drive, then can select windows. How do i get it so that it the bootloader comes up straight away (so i dont need to use the kubuntu CD to start one of the operating systems?)

thanks again

you probably left the cd drive as the 1st boot device. Go to the bios, find the boot stuff and make sure that the hdd is before the cd drive.
