Connection spikes

my IP is 10.x.x.xx and so is my gateway. Should it start with more numbers then just a 10? More like yours and every one else lol..

Naah generally the 10.X.X.X is used for business and 192.168.X.X is used for home.

Also your DNS server can be anything, doesn't nesscairly have to be your router

If you have something like this it's still fine

Think i should change it to 192?

If so how?

No reason to at all, both numbers are valid addresses.

I believe the reason for splitting business and home into different ranges was so that you couldn't have a moron completely mess up a business network by plugging in his crap that he bought at best buy or w/e.

So what do you want me to do?

I can get to that part with the ipconfig/all but after that what do i have to do to stop the spikes?

Well as long as your not noticing an overall poor internet connection, I would recomend trying the port fowarding as described above.

ok, i will try to explain more thoroughly. Also... you said your default gateway didn't work... try using your DHCP Server and if that doesn't work tell us the exact model of your router.

1. Start --> Run --> cmd
-----type ipconfig/all (at the C:/> prompt)
----------record your DNS IP Address and IP Address

2. Open Mozilla/IExplorer/Opera or any other browser you may have

3. Type the DNS IP Address into the url box

(Like others who responded have said... the ip address that you get is usually for a business network, but that is fine. Enter exactly what you see into a browsers url address box.)|

4. A window should appear similar to the photo shown below...
(your router may be different, I have a Belkin.)

5. Navigate and find "port forwarding" or in my case "application gateways"

6.Enter the ports to be forwarded

7. Apply changes and see if it helps.

I am starting to think maybe my web browsing spikes may be the same deal.. because lately its been taking awhile to load sites and 2 minutes later they load fine again. At first i didnt want to think they were the same because you know, sites load slow sometimes.

If this is the case, then sometings up with my overal internet connection maybe?
