I run my own web design company, and i'm figuring that it will be cheaper in the long run to host my own web site then to pay for a hosting service. I know what i need to do this, i just have a few questions.

First) can i use my laptop as a monitor for my server tower? or do i need to buy a monitor?

Second) If i host all the web crap on a tower, but i do all my designing on my laptop, what is the best way to get stuff over? Could someone please explain this in detail.

Thank you!

First of all, make sure that your ISP allows servers (many don't). Also what OS will this server be running?

1) You don't really need a monitor no. I don't think you will need to use your laptop as a monitor for the server; if this is a *nix machine you can simply ssh into the server and do all your administration from the CLI.

2) You have many options here, my preferred method would be over ssh. Alternatively you could use ftp.
