Having Problems with Wireless Routing

We have the problem that my computer will not log onto steam, or windows activation, i am using a wireless usb adapter. I have installed the software for this adapter and I am able to download from the internet. We have tried putting it into Port Forwading.
The Router we have is the Netgear DG834G and we have managed to get it working on my dad's computer on the Ethernet Cable, I have configured a static ip adress on both of our computers also
