Connecting to extra networks

I have a computer running windows 98 with an AirLink wireless network card. I am using a buffalo router (both are cheap brands i kno). My computer seems to be picking up another network called netgear which is not the network that i want. It also picks up my network called default. Occasionally i will lose the default connection and only have the netgear. My dads computer which used to be running windows 98 also had this problem but when he upgraded to WinXP it stopped. I have two other computers running WinXP but this computer is too old and slow to run XP so i was wondering if i could get rid of this netgear thing w/out upgrading.

if you're picking up another network you must have neighbors with a wireless network also. I wouldn'tthink it would pick up a network that doesn't exist
