Networking Problems

I have networked four computer together. They all run different versions of Windows. Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional.

The computer running Windows 98 can view the other three computers. The computer running Windows ME can only see the one running Windows 98. The computers running Windows XP cannot see the othe two computers.

The network was working fine until I introduced the computers running Windows XP.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I guess first question for you will be can you ping all around?
Second is are IP's static or dynamic?

Never used ping before, what do I do and what should I be looking for ?

For all the computer's the IP addresses are assigned automatically.

PING go to start>run>cmd>ping 192.168.1.1>enter

"cmd is for XP's; command for 98 and ME ;in msdos command promp type ping notice space above and IP of PC.Hit enter after command you should get 4 replies if your PC's are communicating.If you get no response there is a connectivity problem.Also ping 127.0.0.1 to test local NIC card of PC.

Post back your results.Turn OFF XP's firewalls,check all cables.

It most likely is XP's built in firewall if network stopped after you introduced them.Firewall is in Local area network properties.

also you can veiw the ip's in the cammand prompt with the command
ipconfig
the ip you want is local area connection
