Overclocking an Alienware.

As i posted in my last threat, i just ordered a alienware. I know that when you order them they can overclock them for you for about 200$. Is it possible to overclock them on your own? Is it difficult?

Re: Overclocking a alienware.

Laptop or desktop?

Actually i don't think it matters. Dell locks their BIOS.

Re: Overclocking a alienware.

well, technically you can overclock anything if you put enough work into it, but I don't see an alienware desktop being an issue. give adequate cooling, you can also overclock the laptops.

Re: Overclocking a alienware.

I'm not so sure about that. If they offer to overclock it, they might leave the options open. This most likely voids your warranty though.

Re: Overclocking a alienware.

yeah its a desktop, i heard that dell locks them, but i figured the alienware company might be different, they might not operate directly under dell. But it sure would be nice if i could, although i have no idea what im doing.

also, when i ordered it, i put two Nvidia GTX 260's in it. I am wondering if that would be as good as 1 GTX 285, or 295?

Re: Overclocking a alienware.

it beats a 285, but a 295 would beat it by a pretty large margin.

Cabbs, there is always a way to overclock it.

True, I just never really cared for software overclocking.

Re: Overclocking an Alienware.

What model motherboard does it have?

Cabbs, You can always do motherboard modifications to overclock. Not really worth all the trouble to most people, but it does work.

Re: Overclocking an Alienware.

I can help you when you get it. Its really quite easy. If you can get Remeniz, even better. He has an i7 920, and has overclocked it to 4.2GHz.
