Default Windows xp

I have a laptop with vista basic 32-bit operating system. I require to know if it is possible to install xp pro (64bit) on my laptop? If yes, is there any determental effects?

If you have a 64 bit compatible processor, then you'll be fine.

Just make sure all your programs have a 64 bit counterpart.

How can I find out if the processor is 64bit compatible? And how can I find out if the programs are also 64bit compatible?
