Default Windows XP

I was loading XP home on a computer for a friend and put in the product key, but got the error that said I had reached my limits on how many times I could use that code.
Does that mean if I have an issue on my own computer and have to reload it I will have to buy another copy, even though I already purchased this one?

I respect your right to alt+F4.
