Default Windows system Logs

What Windows Logs in xp and vista automatically run or generate daily and weekly and how can I find them?

Part two of the question is can I access these system logs from the command line?

Part 3 is How do I read them? Is there an online tutorial or is the microsoft knowledge base on this matter pretty easy to understand?
