Default win 7

in the upgrade version of win7 do u need the xp cd to upgrade or do u just need the product key

I dont think you can just upgrade from xp to win 7.

As far as I know you can get an upgrade version of windows 7, but you will need to reformat to install it. This may be verified as part of the installation in which case you may not be required to do anything, but if you've got access to the CD I'd have it to hand just in case. In the days when you could buy upgrade versions of XP and the installer couldn't verify a previous OS, you needed to insert an ME / 2000 or 98 disk for it to continue*.

*Though there was a bug in early releases that actually let windows 95 CDs through as well!
