I have a user at work who would like to run Windows 7 on his new PC solely from a flash drive for security purposes. After reading up on the subject, it appears that this is not possible. What about using an eSATA drive in this manner? Has anyone here ever installed 7 on an eSATA drive and ran it successfully? So far what I've read says it's possible as long as the BIOS supports booting from eSATA. I just wondered if anyone has actually done it.

I don't see why it wouldn't-- Win 7 has SATA drivers, and an eSATA drive is the same as any other SATA drive, just external to the machine.

Convincing the machine to boot from the eSATA drive is likely to be the bigger issue.
