my belkin pcmia card is recognised by ubunutu but there is no support for wpa which i am after,

Ubuntu does support WPA without a problem if you know what you're doing.

See the ubuntu forums:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WPAHowTo

I use a Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu 6.06 (patched|updated) with WPA running without a problem.

lol when i tried to get wireless on my ubuntu laptop it wasn't working but i actually had an eithernet adapter and i somehow got it working! so if you have a eithernet port, a rouder with availble eithernet plugs, and an eithernet cable, you can get on the internet easily.
