I don't think the problem is your computer, I think it's your drive. Do you have any free PCI slots? If you do, you should look into this USB 3.0 expansion hubs and this USB 3.0 flash drives.

For what I've been seeing, USB 3.0 flash drives and hubs are not that expensive.

Hi no free pci slot; it's one of those tight compact towers. Thinking of getting a bigger tower and getting a shop to transfer everything to another motherboard, then to the tower - if it's feasible.

Hi people, End result is I'm sending the drive back. I have a feeling that's where the problem is as despite its slowness and after days of trying, if i send files to it, not all of the original files make it, and those that do most seem to be corrupted and they won't open.

Sounds like the right thing to do. A slow transfer rate may be just a limitation of your particular hardware, however, the files should copy correctly regardless.
