Default video help

Can someone tell me witch CODEC is better

H.263 or MPEG-2 or XviD or DivX

I don't worry about file size I just want the best Video and Audio Qwality.

I will be copying and Encoding

It's somewhat of a broad question but I would have to say H.264 would be the most superior codec to use.

Handbrake is a good conversion program to use to make H.264 videos.

Handbreak never worked for me I am using Format Factory.

One more thing a DVD with a Movie you buy at a Store

Am I right the Video Bit Rate is 9800 kbps and the Resolotion is 720 x 480??
