Question Video editing software - need recommendations!

Can anyone recommend good video editing software that is cheaper than Adobe premiere Pro? Right now I am using Womble, and I find that it is very limiting (also limiting as to what file types it uses). I have been doing a lot of video work lately and would like to invest in a GOOD editing program, preferably under $200.

Windows Movie Maker is fairly limited as to what file types it works with, and is also limited as to editing capabilities. I was looking for something that is a step up from WMM - maybe not the $600 professional version, but something that can do a little more with different file types.

Ok, doing some checking on what you all recommended, anyone have any preferences between Pinnacle Studio (for $129.99) and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platimun ($124.99)?
