Default Video capturing software

Hey guys I have a Sony Handycam trv608 and im wanting to convert videos to digital so i can play them on any computer or dvd player. I found this converter Amazon.com: Canopus 77010150100 ADVC110 Converter: Computers & Accessories to hook the camcorder up to the PC using firewire cable, now my only thing is what kind of software do i need to capture the film? I want something that does well!!!! If any of you have a better recommendation for a converter let me know!!
