Unknown taskbar icon saying I have unread message

Hello all, I have a problem that is annoying me... I wasn't sure where to post this so I posted it in the Software section.

Today when I turned on my laptop running Windows 7 I noticed an icon in the bottom right section of the taskbar (see screen shot). When I hover the mouse over it, it tells me I have one unread message, as you can see. If I click it, it does nothing. If I right click it, again, it does nothing. I've checked all running processes in task manager and none of them are out of the ordinary. I haven't installed anything lately except my Epson printer. But that was days ago and this icon just showed up today. I'm worried it might be something malicious. I know it's not Microsoft Outlook as I haven't even set it up yet. Is there a way to remove it? And, if it's actually part of a program running on my laptop, does anyone know the name of it? Or at least how it got installed? Thanks to anyone that helps ahead of time. Any suggestions or help in removing this is greatly appreciated as my OCD won't let me keep it there

Hmm... seem's I've solved the problem. I restarted my laptop and a message came up atop the icon saying something about "LTCM". So I googled it an it turns out it was installed after I installed my Epson printer. But what I don't understand is why it just came up today and not around 5 days ago when I installed the printer software? I've uninstalled it via add/remove programs and it's gone. The add/remove programs was the very first thing I checked and there was nothing there... I feel so stupid right now.
