Ubuntu Problem

I just installed ubuntu on my hard drive. And i noticed when i open an application, my computer graphics fan turns on. At least i think its my graphics card fan. Well anyway its my gfx fan or something else in there that keeps turning on and off, over and over. its getting annoying. How can i fix this?

btw, can i install any type of linux software? or only the ones using debian system or something like that.

1. It might be slowing down.

2. .deb packages install with the install packages, and anything else you compile yourself.

What do you mean by slowing down?
