Default Ubuntu Partitioning

I'm currently trying to install Ubuntu 7.10 on my Inspiron laptop. My question is about partitioning. the utility they give you lets you use the whole disk or do it manually. I don't want to use the whole disk because i would still like XP to stay on the disk as the main OS. I'm not quite sure what to do to create the separate partition for Ubuntu. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I forget how to do it exactly. What I would recommend is that you check out the absolute beginner forum on http://ubuntuforums.org. you will get a response from somebody almost instantly.
