Ubuntu on External HDD - Quick Question

It will but, I wouldn't buy it slowly for the purpose of running Ubuntu. If you wanted to get into running linux to start i would check out http://virtualbox.org they have a great program that allows you to run a virtual machine on you computer, while running xp or whatever is your os.

If you were looking to get an external hdd I might look at getting:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101014
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822101045
both have double the capacity and under $100.

cheers!

I'm not totally new to linux, but still only have a little experience. I have a Knoppix livecd and installed Ubuntu today on a friends computer and it went well so I decided I was ready to get linux at my own home.

Is there any specific reason I shouldn't get that HDD? I was really looking for something in the $60 range but if that one truly is not good, I suppose I could go for the one that's $80 but that wouldn't be preferred.

There really isn't any reason that you shouldn't or couldn't get it. I was just giving you a couple of other options of Externals that are under $100 and have a lot of space. Thats all.

Cheers!

Just download Ubuntu and use it straight from the cd (live) just to try it out. Then if you want, you can install it from that same cd.
