Default ubuntu 7.10

ok im installing ubuntu 7.10 on an older dell c610 laptop. when i boot into the live cd, it loads and all but when its installing the system, stays at 15% detecting file systems and the cd drive sounds like it is reading but i need some help

does ubuntu have that utility which allows you to check if the cd has all the files it should. When you boot with the live cd you should have an option like "check cd" or something like that.

Not sure if ubuntu has it, at least some distro did. But if you find it then use it and see of the cd is ok.
