Default Ubuntu 10.10 two finger scroll

As you might have guessed I have a two finger scroll problem. When I go to the mouse settings its greyed out and whenever I try to attempt to do a two finger scroll the mouse goes on cocaine mode and runs everywhere. Ive managed to google some and it worked temporarily (it resets itself on the next boot). so my question is how to make it the two finger scroll work permanently? its a samsung r620 if it helps and it uses synaptics pointing device when I use windows 7.

I know this may be a common issue and it must have been answered a million times but I am now giving up on googling and now asking for people who are knowledgeable in ubuntu. This has worked on ubuntu 11.04 but I didnt like the new unity interface and switched to 10.10.

Cheers.
