According to the message the software is not able to find windows. Has the operating system been wiped off the system? Does it boot regularly to the logon screen?

That is the strange part. It does boot regularly to the log-on screen.

Try to mount of the other partition on the drive. Windows 7 has two partitions. The second one holds the windows folder
