Default task bar question- windows explorer

Up until today, the task bar along the bottom of the screen hd the open tasks represented horizontally along the task bar. Now, the bar is still there, but there is no display of open tasks. How do I bring them back?

You mean the number of selected files represented on the status bar?

Are we really talking about Windows Explorer? i.e., the Windows Explorer that shows up when you press Window key + E?

Any screenshot?

What version of Windows? If it's Windows 7 - right-click on the task bar and go to properties. There should be an option that says "taskbar buttons" with a drop down menu beside it. What option is selected? I have mine at "never combine" and I think that's what you are looking for.

Let us know if that is what you are referring to or not.
