Default system processes nightmare!

Hi,
I have a machine running Windows Media Centre, ATI graphics card, Norton antivirus and a few other programs.
My problem is that my screen saver never comes on and similarly msn messenger never shows me as away.....think there is a system process running that is messing around with things?
I have been into msconfig.exe and disabled all processes and restarted, after i did this the screen saver worked and messenger showed me as away after a couple of minutes.
Does anyone have an idea as to what process I need to turn off to solve the problem?

Many thanks
bushman-dan

well we can't tell u anything before u tell us what processes u have in there.
But try google, enter the name of the process and see what comes up. One of the 1st links should tell u what that process does.
