Stopping Indexing on new SSD or moving index file ?

I have been told to stop the indexing service for my new SSD to stop constant writes to the drive.

I do make use of the search service sometimes so I don't really want to disable the service as Samsung are suggesting. I read on another site that you can get around this by keeping the service running but have the index location on a HDD rather than the SSD.

So everything will still be indexed but on the mechanical drive rather than the SSD.

Is this a good idea or would I be better of stopping it altogether ?

When I disabled the service I could not search at all, are you disabling search indexing or the search service ? if so how would I just disable the search indexing ?

Sorry honey (search indexing)

1. Right click on Computer icon and select “Manage”
2. Click on “Services and Applications” in the computer management window.
3. Click on “Services” on the left hand panel
4. You will see a lot of services listed. Scroll down and look for “Windows Search” .
5. Double click on “Windows Search”and “Windows Search Properties Window will open up..
6. Next to the “Startup type” click on the drop down option and select “Disabled”.
7. Finally, click the “Apply” button, then “OK”

Or in Computer right click on the drive Properties / General untick “indexing”.
