Default Simple linux for older computers

Hey, I have never really dealt with linux before but I think I want to give it a try. My sister has an older compaq (600mhz celeron old). So I need somthing that is fast and simple. I just want it so that once its setup she willn't need to mess around with it. So if you guys could give me some suggestions that would be really cool, thanks.
