Whenever I try to install security updates for Microsoft.NET Framework (on Vista) I usually get a repeated failure to install on one of the versions, accompanied by failure code 643. In the past this happened only on the update for NET Framework 4, but more recently the update for NET Framework 1.1 SP1 has been the problem. On each occasion I was able to resolve this (and successfully install the updates) by uninstalling all versions of the NET Framework and re-installing them fresh, as per Microsoft's recommendation for failure code 643.
This is becoming such a regular occurrence whenever a new batch of NET Framework updates are available, that I am wondering what the reason is and if there is another way of resolving this? Could it be because I have Vista with Service Pack 2 installed and the update is SP1? How vital are these updates anyway - as I am now tempted to ignore them!
Thanks!
