Also remember that different machines will have different hardware and therefore require different drivers. So while you may be able to boot the one installation when hooked up to different machines, don't expect it to behave reliably or consistently.
If you're still determined to go ahead with it, at least use a distro such as knoppix which is fantastic at detecting hardware on the fly.
Save the whales, feed the hungry, free the mallocs.
