Default reinstalling

i got a hard drive from my buddie and he had pro i want to put my copy of home on it but when i boot it up with the XP cd it tells me that it does not detect a hard disc i know i am just probably being retarded but some help would be great thank you

Is the jumper settings correct? And was there a diagonists cd with the harddrive.... i know with seagate and western digital they come and you hjave to intstall their crap before use.. Formatting etc

in bios is the boot order set to:
1)cd drive
2)floppy
3)hhd

i never use FDD for booting, i have HDD, CD, DVD
