recovery not working on laptop

hey I have an issue where the recovery process will not finish and keeps giving me an error of recovery failed please start over.

here is the error I keep getting, can anyone help me and the system has a new hard drive.

What version of Windows is this? When you say Recovery process, are you putting the original CD/DVD that came with the computer in and trying to reload Windows?

Yes it is the recovery discs that came with the computer it is a hp dv6700
and the version of windows is vista home premium

I did update the bios before I started all this too

could this be a corrupt recovery cd.

yes it completed fully before I did any recovery on the machine

Hi, i have similar error messages as i use system recovery discs from HP (not teh original discs taht came with teh computer - but ones they have since sent out) .. Just wondering if/how you overcame these failed device errors??

the first cds I got from HP were corrupt, but they sent me a second set of cds and that sloved the problem
