Default Recommend a file recovery program

So im pretty sure my HD is fried. I cant boot up windows anymore and im sure i have a virus or something. I have a bunch of files that i need to get off my HD and i would like to know what you guys can recommend to use to retreive my files.

I googled file recovery and go tons of hits, but im not sure whats a good one.
If there is a free one that works good that would be awesome, but i will pay for one if i have too.

Im assuming i have to get a connector so i can hook up the HD to my desktop to retreive the files.

Thank in advance!

I've tried free ones before...
oddly enough I've never found a good free one.

I recommend a paid for one called R-studio, they have a demo version that will scan the disk and show you what files are recoverable, and then you can decide if you want to pay for the full version to actually get the files back, (basically you can see how well the program works before parting with hard earned cash).

I haven't got a chance to try this program, but it seems to be a decent one. From the same people that developed Ccleaner.
