Photoshop CS4 on a slow computer

Hi all
I recently got adobe CS4 master collection and photoshop is pretty slow for me. Probably because I'm handling a big file and I have a RAM of about 500 MB. I solved the RAM problem by giving up on storage memory for the virtual memory, and I increased it to about 2 GB. However, Photoshop is still quite slow. Could anyone tell me how to make it run faster?

What are the specs of the system you are running this on?

It should tell you when you install it that your paging file should exist on a separate physical drive from your Operating System. If you have another hard drive, even a small one, it might be something worth trying.
