OS's

Can anyone gimme some brief descriptions on different popular OS's, besides windows?

I've been wanting to try some different stuff out, just really don't know anything in that area..

Windows is by far dominating the market right now in the Operating System category, but i'm not 100% sure but i think i heard that currently, Linux is being adopted for home users some two times faster than Windows, which sounds pretty good
There is Linux and Unix, many more just can't remember, most of the open source ones like linux have almost indefinate distributions ... so there will definately one that will suit you

Well you must know about Mac OSX and then as dyserq said there is linux - now linux is becoming quite popular now days as its free and open source.
