On my Dell inspiron, the speaker works only with the headphones plugged in? Any thoughts? Says everything else is functional and been through as much troubleshooting as I could. Thanks.

This might help.
right-click on the sound icon to the right on the task bar. Then choose playback devices. select the other speaker and hit set default.
