Default Movies for youtube

I have tried to upload simple home vids to youtube, but I am told that they are in the wrong format. What can I do about this? Should I buy a new vid camera? Or do I need new software on my PC? I have Windows Media Centre right now.

What is the file extension of the video's you're trying to upload?

Windows Media Center isn't an encoder, just a player.

Windows Live Movie Maker is actually pretty good at taking raw video from cams and turning it into the proper format for YouTube.
