Default memory allocation

I have a dual CPU computer that runs a demanding application on one cpu. I try to run word, which does start on the other cpu, but runs really slow. I think the other application is using alot of the ram causing any other app to run slowly.

Is there a way to allocate ram other than messing with the virtual memory?

Default Re: memory allocation

are you working with a dual channel memory system? It's my understanding that one channel will dedicate itself to one process (or cpu in a dual cpu system like yours) while the other channel will work for the next process or cpu. If you do have dual channel memory, have you monitored it as well to see if it is using it?
